Sessions in Polish Radio for upcoming album

2023-10-30
arranger, celticmusic, composer, newalbum, polishradio, producer, studio

In October, I had the opportunity to organise additional recording sessions for Amelia Tokarska’s upcoming harp album with my adaptations of Celtic music. As part of the session, whistles and pipes were recorded with the participation of virtuoso Marcin Rumiński from the band SHANNON, known for his collaborations with such artists as Zbigniew Namysłowski, Grzegorz Turnau, Michał Urbaniak and many others. The incredible Tadeusz Mieczkowski was in charge of mixing and mastering of the entire upcoming album. Several types of whistles and pipes were included as a complementary element in the album, an important part of the adaptation of more and less known Celtic music harp themes. The recordings were made in the S2 studio of Polish Radio and are ready for release also in Dolby Atmos™ standard. The session was a great pleasure for me as a producer, arranger and art-director of this project. There was a profound understanding between me, Marcin and Tadeusz in terms of (not only) the musical aspects.

Stay tuned, more news is coming soon!

Somewhere around Midsummer Night’s Eve: New album with Krzysztof Maciejowski announcement

2023-06-06
arranger, composer, krzysztofmaciejowski, newalbum, piano, producer

One summer evening, it seems, on Midsummer Night, in the company of skylights, in the garden next to the tenement in Bielsko-Biala where we both live with our families, we made the decision to pour our common musical chemistry onto an album. Get to know the announcement of the album we co-wrote with Krzysztof Maciejowski – it’s a duet of two distinct musical characters, where different influences and inspirations clash. It’s an album where we didn’t want, by design, to repeat anything that inspired us as listeners.

The premise behind our lengthy discussions is a concept album that tells a story about the world from a child’s perspective. These are various stories of characters fictionalized or inspired by literature to convey some universal truth about the relationship between an adult and a child. For adults, it’s an opportunity to immerse themselves in the emotions being accompanied by childhood memories and lost sensitivity, carefree and fresh perspective in the world around them. An opportunity to return to the values that were the meaning of existence when we were younger. We want to share with the listeners our perspective on this issue. We tread on the sinuous line between the dreams of childhood and the reality of adulthood. This is a musical journey through the meanders and backstreets of life. It’s a musical landscape painted with the emotions of growing up.

Musically, we have never been able to precisely pigeonhole what would define the style of the album’s contents. Our friends, who had the opportunity to listen to fragments of recordings and demos, defined it on the borderline of classical ambient, contemporary, with distinct influences of art-rock and improvised music. The music is extremely concrete, without unnecessary long-windedness, full of content and precisely planned moments, with scrolling references to French impressionism or the Romantic period. Most of the motifs for the songs were created while jammingg in my apartment – during often spontaneous meetings without any preparation. It gave the effect of incredible freshness in the music aspect.

We play with the consonance of my 60-plus-year-old piano, which sounds unique to us, and Krzysztof’s violin, resulting in a very tasty mix. There is no shortage of experimentation, which is definitely not the pure sound of the piano, but can be brought out with this instrument. There will be additional arrangements on the album, but the focus is on the two instruments.

Scheduled for release in the first half of 2024, but there will be previews and more spicy details before then.

Stay tuned!

Let the dance begin!

2023-05-11
arranger, cavatinahall, celticharp, celticmusic, composer, harp, newalbum, producer, studio

“Let the dance begin” – as ending lyrics from Genesis “Dance on a volcano” said. Last year, I started to work intensively on a few musical projects in a variety of roles – as an arranger, composer, producer and keyboard player. This website will guide all the people that are interested in my work, including some spicy details on my work. To be precise from the very beginning (since I don’t like making only communication noise at all): I am currently running four projects that vary in terms of the degree of progress – different by genre, approach and people I cooperate with.

Shortly: harp album including Celtic and Scottish themes played by a fantastic harpist Amelia Tokarska, piano&violin project (truly: very tough to categorize, but something between ambient, contemporary music with improvisation elements) with Krzysztof Maciejowski and…some other two I will show you soon – emotions guaranteed.

So many exciting musical moments with beautiful and hopefully inspiring stories behind them. Finally what’s the most important: at least one of those projects will be released as an album in a few months this year.

Stay tuned!

P.S: Photo from the Cavatina Hall in Bielsko-Biała during harp album recording sessions. Every
post will include some photos from my work, I hope you’ll enjoy.
